Christians in Papua New Guinea have received a historic license from the government of Papua New Guinea to establish that country’s first Christian Broadcasting Network! 5.3 million people will hear Christian radio for the first time!

The Pidgin English word "Wantok" means close friend or family, and is the identifier of Papua New Guinea’s Christian Radio Network –“Wantok Radio Light.” (L to R) Pawa Warena, Managing Director; Curt Bender, HCJB Engineer; and Fred Tulia, Board Member are all smiles as full power is resumed. The station has been at low power for two months due to transmitter problems. It is a source of great pleasure to know that our Christian Wantok (family) extends all the way to Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Way Truth Life Radio's Sister Station in Lae, PNG

We have a very special connection to believers there. This is because in 2003 and 2004 a part of every Sharathon gift was contributed to the PNG Christian Radio Network to help build a repeater FM station, our sister station, in Lae, PNG’s second largest city. That station went on the air on June 9, 2005.  Our late Director of Ministries, Garry Sutley and his wife Ruth were on the scene at that historic moment.  We are delighted to have an important part in the effort to bring quality Christian radio to this distant part of the world.

30 Repeater Stations Nationwide

The Papua New Guinea Christian Broadcasting Network, which owns and runs Wantok Radio Light, has governmental approval for the construction of 30 repeater stations, reaching the entire country of PNG!  To date, 12 stations are on the air!

the reaction from local residents has been “overwhelming, not only from the Christians, but also from the non-Christians. The people are overjoyed to have a Christian voice on the air that is uplifting and encouraging.”
