Journal - Thursday June 9, 2005 - On The Air

It is Thursday morning in Papua New Guinea and We have been on the road in the Highlands, crossing three Provinces (States) to install three FM Stations.

I am glad to report that all three FM stations are on the air! We are also experiencing excellent reception of the shortwave station, which is based in Port Moresby. Everywhere we have gone we have had excellent reception of the Shortwave. This is a critical component of the PNG Christian Broadcasting Network here in this rugged and mountainous country.

Journal - Friday June 10, 2005 - Our Sister Station in Lae goes on the air!

I am delighted to report that our American and PNG installation team has completed FM translator station #2 and #3. When we finished our first one at Ialibu, we started out for Goroka to install #2. We arrived last Saturday evening in Goroka, a beautiful small city in the Highlands. It is renowned for its fantastic year-round climate and its delicious coffee! We decided, with the blessing of the local church leaders, that we had no option but to install the FM station on Sunday. We worked all day at the mutually shared transmitter site of a nationwide TV network on whose towers we are partnering. By Monday afternoon we were finished, had a prayer of dedication, threw the switch and the first Christian radio station for this city was on the air!

  • 35 pigs cooking overnight in the ground, along with all the related fruits and vegetables for a Papua New Guinea “pig feast”...
  • The first live nationwide Christian radio broadcast...
  • Members of Parliament and a Provincial Governor attending to lend their support...

Journal #5 June 11, 2005 - Historic Dedication

We wish this photo could capture the excitement under the big-top tent! Approximately 5,000 people sat on the ground for over 5 hours while another 6,000 or 7,000 people stood outside completely surrounding the tent.

It was the official Launching of the shortwave station and FM network covering Papua New Guinea.
