Stand Up for Christian Radio

Many Christian broadcast stations in the US are urging their listeners to comment on a critical upcoming Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Docket Proceeding.

Unlike the decades old hoax petition regarding atheist Madelyn Murray O’Hair ending Christian radio, this one is real.

It’s FCC Docket proceeding 04-233. If adopted as proposed, it will bring a variety of hardships to all noncommercial radio stations (including Way Truth Life Radio). You can view the aspects of the proceeding at this website: savechristianradio.com. On this special website, set up by other broadcasters, you can review the items that the FCC is proposing. Then to file a comment, which you, as a citizen, are entitled to do, there are instructions on how to file comment with the FCC.

The statistics are staggering:

  • The Kaiser Family Foundation reports that 70% of teens have accidentally viewed pornography online.
  • Christianity Today reports that 37% of pastors admit that Internet pornography is a current struggle.
  • 19% of middle school students have met face to face with someone they first met online.
  • 22% of middle school students know someone who has been bullied online.

And yet few Christian families do anything to protect themselves from the evil of the internet.  It's time for a change.

Original WTLR Staff in 1978

On Sunday January 1, 1978 our radio ministry was born with the inaugural broadcast of our flagship station WTLR-FM. During the early afternoon hours, the airwaves at 89.9 FM came alive with a glorious sound of CELEBRATION -- the joyous music of "Christ the Lord/He is Risen", performed by the Oklahoma Baptist Festival Choir.

It was a humble beginning. Our first station home was a converted house in downtown State College and our first transmitter building was an old, dented truck box. The staff consisted mostly of eager and dedicated volunteers. And yet the dream was big: to bring to Central Pennsylvania a full time Christian radio voice.
